Nick the Greek is opening its first East Texas restaurant in Tyler

The California-born Greek street-food chain is coming to 1575 S SW Loop 323 in The Shops at Tyler, on the West Loop just north of Sam's Club. Tyler residents Ricky and Lindsey Holt are the franchisees, and they told KNUE the plan is to open on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The menu is built around gyros carved from meat cooked in-house on a vertical rotisserie, plus charbroiled souvlaki skewers, pitas, bowls, salads, baklava and loukoumades. Founded in 2014 by cousins Big Nick, Little Nick and Baby Nick Tsigaris, the brand has grown past 100 locations in eight states. Tyler is its sixth in Texas and the first outside the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas.

Chandler sits on SH-31 at the north end of Lake Palestine, between Tyler and Athens. Its best-known restaurant is a Louisiana-style seafood house on Main Street. Downtown also has a small barbecue joint, and SH-31 has a strip of family Italian, Tex-Mex and fried-chicken spots. For a meal by the water, there are grills at the lake's resorts.

Wade's Place

Wade's Place at 104 E Main St is Chandler's signature restaurant. Wade and his wife Anne started out selling crawfish and shrimp from a stand next to the feed store before opening it. Today the menu runs from crawfish and étouffée cooked Louisiana-style to hand-cut Angus steaks, fish plates, boudin and lunchtime po'boys, with a big deck for outdoor dining. It's BYOB and keeps limited hours, usually Wednesday through Saturday, so check before you go.

Barbecue, Italian and Tex-Mex

Big Rip's Delicious BBQ on W Main St downtown serves chopped and sliced brisket sandwiches and plates. On SH-31 East, Val's Italian Restaurant & Pizza is a family Italian place serving pasta, pizza and beer, wine and cocktails. Los Hermanos, the Chandler location of the Los Hermanos family restaurants, is a Tex-Mex restaurant and bar in the former San Pedro's building. Los Potrillos is on SH-31 West.

Pop's Honey Fried Chicken serves honey fried chicken, strips, fish plates and country sides. China Chef is a family-run Chinese restaurant known for sesame chicken and lunch plates. Chandler Donuts handles breakfast, and there's a 24-hour Whataburger at Hwy 31 and Broad.

On Lake Palestine

Chandler doesn't have a waterfront restaurant of its own, but the lake's resorts do. The Villages Resort near Flint has a marina with the Harbour Grille. Lake Palestine Resort on the Frankston side runs a lakeside grill with a deck on the water, serving burgers, fried seafood plates and breakfast. Both are a drive around the lake from Chandler, so check hours before heading out.
