Mount Pleasant has one of the most interesting food scenes of any small city in East Texas, and it's thanks to the community. More than half the city is Hispanic (53–55% in the 2020 census), and it supports a long list of Mexican restaurants and taquerias. Add Texas barbecue, country cooking, a hibachi grill and a downtown pizza tavern.

Mexican Restaurants and Taquerias
This is where Mount Pleasant shines. Two Senoritas on W Ferguson Rd has been open since 1996; its 'Social Club' name is a leftover from the county's dry-era private-club licensing. Restaurant Mexico, also on W Ferguson, is a family restaurant that has been in business since 2006. Gabby's Tacos on N Jefferson Ave has been at its address since 2021. Jorge's has been on N Jefferson since 2019 and opened a second location on W Ferguson in May 2025. 2310 Cantina Y Cocina on N Jefferson is a Mexican cantina and kitchen.
Smaller taquerias fill in the rest: Arandis Tacos downtown on E 1st St, Taqueria San Felipe Torres Mochas on W 1st St, Tacos By Queen on W 7th St, El Bajio on N Washington Ave, Restaurant Regina on Lisa St and El Rincon MP Tacos & More, which opened on W Ferguson in October 2025.
Barbecue and Home Cooking
For barbecue, Outlaw's Bar-B-Que has been on W Ferguson Rd since late 2018.
For comfort food, Country Cafe Diner serves hearty breakfast plates, omelettes, skillets and chicken-fried steak. In 2025 it moved into a big red barn at 2217 W Ferguson Rd. Sisters Bistro on W Ferguson is locally owned and known for its all-you-can-eat homestyle buffet and salad bar. Herschel's Family Restaurant on S Jefferson Ave serves Southern home cooking at breakfast, lunch and dinner and has sister locations in Henderson and Pittsburg. For burgers, Randy's Burgers on Edwards Ave is a local burger joint, and Mt Pleasant Burgers & Fries is on E 14th St.
Downtown and Beyond
Downtown, Nardello's Pizza Tavern at 103 N Madison has been on the square since 2016, in a fully remodeled 1930s hardware store. It serves hand-stretched pizzas, Italian dishes, cocktails and craft beer.
Elsewhere in town: Rancho Seco Steakhouse opened on E 16th St in December 2024 and has a full bar. Mardi Gras Seafood Restaurant on Industrial Rd is locally owned and has been open since 2013. Luigi's Italian Cafe has served pasta and pizza on W Ferguson Rd since 2004, and Mount Fuji Hibachi Steak House on S Jefferson Ave has teppanyaki tables and sushi.
