Plano Guide

Things to Do in Plano, Texas

Plano is a big, affluent Collin County city with a lot going on — a glossy mixed-use district with one of the country's best food halls, a lively historic downtown, a genuine nature preserve, and a small museum in a century-old rail car. It has the range of a small city rather than a suburb.

Here's what to do in and around Plano.

Legacy West

Legacy West is Plano's marquee destination — the largest mixed-use development in North Texas, a walkable district built to shop, dine, and stay. Its highlight is Legacy Hall, a 55,000-square-foot European-style food hall with a brewery and a live-music stage, ranked among the best food halls in the country.

With upscale shops, restaurants, and corporate campuses around it, Legacy West is a polished, energetic place to spend an afternoon or evening, and it anchors modern Plano.

Historic Downtown Plano

For a completely different feel, historic downtown Plano has brick streets shaded by preserved storefronts, now filled with boutiques, home-decor shops, coffee houses, restaurants, and a real nightlife scene. It's walkable and independent, a nice contrast to Legacy West.

The district hosts events and markets through the year, and its mix of shops, bars, and restaurants makes it one of the livelier historic downtowns in the northern suburbs.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

On the outdoor side, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a 200-acre park on Plano's west side, with paved and off-road trails through prairie and woods, an expansive playground, pavilions, and an observation tower. It's a favorite for hikers and mountain bikers.

Backed by one of the deeper trail networks in the suburbs, Arbor Hills gives Plano a genuine natural retreat in a heavily developed area.

The Interurban Railway Museum and Nearby

For local history, the Interurban Railway Museum tells the story of the Texas Electric Railway and its impact on Plano through interactive exhibits and antique photos, with a highlight being a tour of the refurbished 1911 Car No. 360. Admission is free.

And because Plano sits in the middle of Collin County, Frisco's sports district, McKinney's historic square, and Allen's attractions are all a short drive. But between Legacy West, downtown, and Arbor Hills, Plano fills a weekend on its own.
