Princeton Guide

The Outdoors in Princeton, Texas

Princeton is one of the fastest-growing towns on the US-380 corridor east of McKinney, and it has been putting in parks to match. The main city park has trails and ponds, there's more green space around town, and Lavon Lake sits just to the south.

Here's where to get outside in and around Princeton.

Princeton Municipal Park

Princeton Municipal Park is the town's outdoor centerpiece — nearly a mile of hike-and-bike trails that wind around two ponds and cross four pedestrian bridges lit by solar lights, with picnic areas, benches, restrooms, ample parking, and even EV charging stations. It's a well-built, modern city park.

The ponds and bridges make it a pleasant walk or ride close to the center of town, and it's the everyday spot where Princeton families get outside.

Community Parks

Beyond the main park, Princeton keeps several other green spaces. J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park is a good place for a stroll along the creek or an afternoon at the playground, and Parkview Heights Park adds more neighborhood recreation.

All of the city's parks are open daily into the late evening, which gives residents room to walk, play, and get outside on their own schedule as the town keeps growing.

Lavon Lake

For bigger water, Lavon Lake is just south of Princeton — a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir good for fishing, boating, water skiing, and lakeside picnics, with shoreline parks and the Trinity Trail running along its western shore.

Between the city parks and the lake nearby, an outdoor day in Princeton is easy to line up, whether it's a trail walk or a morning on the water.
