Things to Do in Rockwall, Texas

Rockwall is built around Lake Ray Hubbard, and the water shapes what there is to do — a lakefront entertainment district, boating and fishing on one of the area's biggest lakes, and a historic downtown square just inland. It's one of the more scenic day trips east of Dallas.

Here's what to do in and around Rockwall.

The Harbor

The Harbor is Rockwall's signature destination — a lakefront district on Lake Ray Hubbard with a walkway along the water, restaurants, an amphitheater for concerts, and a movie theater. You can stroll the lakefront, catch live music, have dinner over the water, or spread a blanket in the park.

It's one of the premier entertainment districts on the east side of the Dallas area, and an evening at The Harbor — dinner, a concert, and the lake at sunset — is the classic Rockwall outing.

Lake Ray Hubbard

The lake itself is the other main draw. At 22,000 acres, Lake Ray Hubbard is a center for boating, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, and some of the best bass and catfish fishing in the Dallas area. Shoreline parks provide boat ramps, marinas, beaches, and trails.

Whether you want to get out on the water or just walk the shoreline, the lake is Rockwall's playground, and it's what makes the town feel like a resort as much as a suburb.

Historic Downtown

Just inland, Historic Downtown Rockwall is a charming square of boutique shops, cafés, and historic buildings, anchored by The Old Courthouse on the Square Museum, where you can take a guided tour of the county's history.

It's a walkable, low-key counterpart to the lakefront — a place to browse, grab lunch, and get a sense of the town beyond the water. Between the square, The Harbor, and the lake, Rockwall fills a full day.
