Royse City Guide

The Outdoors in Royse City, Texas

Royse City is one of the fast-growing towns strung along I-30 east of Dallas, and its parks system has been growing right along with it. There's a lake park in the middle of town, a spreading network of trails and fishing ponds, and a couple of big reservoirs within a short drive.

Here's where to get outside in and around Royse City.

City Lake Park

City Lake Park is Royse City's main outdoor spot — about 13 acres built around a four-acre catch-and-release lake, with a half-mile walking and jogging loop and a newer playground. It's the everyday park where locals fish, walk, and take the kids, and it sits close enough to downtown to fold into a trip to the square.

For a town growing as quickly as Royse City, the lake park is the anchor of an outdoor system that keeps expanding as the population climbs.

Trails, Ponds, and Playgrounds

Beyond the main lake park, Royse City's Parks and Recreation department manages roughly 45 acres of developed parkland, with four playgrounds, three catch-and-release fishing ponds, and about a mile and a half of nature trails and jogging paths spread across town.

It adds up to a solid amount of everyday green space for a town this size — enough trail to get a walk or run in, and enough water to drop a line, without leaving city limits.

Nearby Lakes

For bigger water, Royse City is well placed between two North Texas reservoirs. Lake Ray Hubbard sits to the west, a large lake ringed by marinas, waterfront restaurants, and boat ramps, and reachable in well under half an hour down I-30. To the southeast, Lake Tawakoni offers fishing, boating, and a state park on its south shore.

Between the city's own parks and the reservoirs on either side, an outdoor day is easy to line up from Royse City.
