Barbecue

Big Jake's Bar-B-Que is the hometown chain. It's based in Texarkana and has stores in Texas and Arkansas, including New Boston Rd (since 2005) and Richmond Rd on the Texas side. Silver Star Smokehouse on W Park Blvd is the Texarkana outpost of a Shreveport-Bossier restaurant group and has been open since 2015. It's a barbecue restaurant with a bar. Blue Ember Smokehouse, part of an Arkansas-based group, opened on Walton Dr in October 2023.

Catfish, Seafood and Southern Cooking

David Beard's Catfish King on Summerhill Rd has served fried catfish, shrimp and Southern sides since 1981. For a seafood boil, The Mighty Crab on Gibson Ln sells crab legs, crawfish and shrimp by the pound, and it has a full bar. Sam's Southern Eatery on New Boston Rd, a Shreveport-based chain, serves fried seafood and po'boys.

For a weekday plate lunch, The Lunch Box on S Robison Rd serves a daily special of an entree, two vegetables, salad, roll and dessert from 11 to 2, Monday through Friday. Wayne's Family Restaurant on S Lake Dr has been at its address since at least 2005.

Bryce's Cafeteria is no longer open. Bryce Lawrence opened it downtown in 1931, and it closed for good on Mall Drive on April 30, 2017, after 86 years.

Tex-Mex and Mexican

Amigo Juan on Morris Ln serves Tex-Mex combination plates and margaritas and has been at that address since 2010. TaMolly's Mexican Kitchen, the Tex-Mex chain founded in Texarkana, has been on St. Michael Dr since 1997. Loca Luna Mexican Grill on Moores Ln is a sit-down restaurant and margarita bar, the original of a small local group. Colima's on Summerhill Rd is family-run and has been open since 2011, and Tacos Mi Pueblo on New Boston Rd since 2007. Los Ruvalcaba, a local taqueria family, has several spots around town.

Steaks, Grills and Downtown

Ironwood Grill on Galleria Oaks Dr is locally owned. It serves hand-cut steaks, burgers and tacos, with outdoor seating and a kids' sandbox area. Benchmark on N Kings Hwy is an upscale American brasserie with Southern influences, and Twisted Fork Grill & Lounge on Summerhill Rd serves steaks, seafood and wood-fired pizzas.

Downtown, around State Line Ave and Main St and the historic Perot Theatre, is the most walkable part of the city. The Stained Page cafe is now at 115 Main St, after moving from its first spot on W Broad St.
