Timpson's signature outdoor draw is Lake Timpson, a roughly 223-acre reservoir completed in 1956 just outside town. It's a respected fishing lake, best known for largemouth bass — managed under a 14-to-21-inch slot limit that has produced a good number of trophy-sized fish over the years — along with crappie and catfish.

The lake's habitat of standing timber, boat docks, and emergent vegetation gives fish plenty of cover, with anglers finding success around vegetation edges, points, and creek channels, especially in the cooler fall, winter, and spring months. For a small town, having a productive bass lake right at the doorstep is a genuine asset.

Beyond the lake, Timpson is surrounded by the rolling Piney Woods of northwestern Shelby County — forests, farms, and the timber country that built the town. Quiet country roads make for scenic drives, and the woods offer good hunting, with deer, hogs, and other game found across the area.
