For Sale Listing Terms
Last updated October 12, 2026
These are the rules for posting in the For Sale section of East Texas Online (easttexas.com). By posting a listing you agree to them.
We're the bulletin board, not the seller
East Texas Online gives you a place to list things for sale and a way for buyers to contact you. We don't own, inspect or sell anything listed here, we don't handle payment between buyers and sellers, and we aren't part of any deal you make. We make no promise about the condition, ownership or legality of any item, or that a listing is accurate. Buyers and sellers deal with each other directly and at their own risk.
Fees
Listings are free during our launch. The table below shows the fees we plan to charge later. We'll update this page before any fee starts. A listing posted while listings are free stays free for its full term.
| Categories | Fee | Listing runs |
|---|---|---|
| Land & Acreage, Homes for Sale, Businesses for Sale, Hunting & Fishing Leases | $20 | 60 days |
| Cars, Trucks & Motorcycles, Trailers, RVs & Campers, Boats & Watercraft, Farm, Ranch & Heavy Equipment | $8 | 30 days |
| Tools & Shop, Furniture & Household, Outdoor, Sporting & Hobby (no firearms), Everything Else | Free | 30 days |
| Featured placement (any category, added to a live listing) | $5 | 7 days |
- A fee pays for the listing, not a sale. We don't take a cut of the price.
- If we turn down a paid listing, we refund the fee, unless we turned it down as a scam or for abuse.
- Once a listing is approved, the fee isn't refundable, including when you mark it sold or take it down early, or when we remove it for breaking these terms.
- A paid listing that hasn't been paid for yet is held as a draft for 48 hours, then deleted.
How long listings stay up
A listing stays up for the number of days shown above, counted from when we approve it. You can renew it during its last 7 days or any time after it expires. A renewal adds a full term, costs the same as the original listing, and moves the listing back to the top as newly listed. You can mark a listing sold or take it down whenever you like from My listings.
Once a listing is sold, expired or removed, its page shows that it's no longer available for up to 90 days, then it's gone.
Limits
- You need a free account to post.
- Up to 3 new listings a day and 15 active listings per account.
- Up to 6 photos per listing. Use photos of the actual item that you took or have the right to use.
- One item, property or lot per listing. Don't post the same thing more than once.
What can't be listed
These aren't allowed in any category:
- Firearms, ammunition, suppressors and gun parts
- Live animals (pets and livestock)
- Alcohol, tobacco, vapes and drugs (including THC and kratom)
- Adult content
- Counterfeit or recalled goods
- Stolen property
- Lottery tickets and event ticket resale
- Services (use our quote request system instead)
- Jobs and help-wanted ads
- Residential rentals (hunting and land leases only)
- Multi-level marketing
Hunting lease listings can describe the hunting, including what hunters use, but no firearms or ammunition can be sold through them. Listings must be for something you have the right to sell, located in or near the town you choose.
Real estate and fair housing
Listings for land & acreage and homes for sale must follow the federal Fair Housing Act and the Texas Fair Housing Act. Every one of these listings carries this notice:
Equal Housing Opportunity. All real estate advertised here is subject to the federal Fair Housing Act, which makes it illegal to advertise any preference, limitation or discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.
Don't describe who should or shouldn't buy. Describe the property instead. We turn down listings with wording that states a preference, such as "no children" or "adults only."
If you're a licensed real estate agent or broker, say so when you post. For land & acreage and homes for sale, Texas Real Estate Commission rules require your brokerage name in every ad, so the form asks for your brokerage and your TREC license number and the listing shows "Listed by" your brokerage. Owners selling their own property list as the owner.
Review and removal
A person reads every listing before it goes up, and every edit before the change shows. We can turn down or remove any listing that breaks these terms, looks like a scam, or that we otherwise decide doesn't belong on the site, and we can close accounts that keep doing it. When we turn a listing down, we tell you why in My listings.
Anyone can report a listing with the "Report this listing" link on its page. We review every report.
How buyers reach you
When you post, you choose how buyers contact you:
- Messages through EastTexas.com (the default). Signed-in buyers send you a message from the listing page. You get an email letting you know, then read and reply in your account. Your email address is never shown to buyers, and theirs isn't shown to you.
- Your phone number. If you choose this, your number shows on the listing for anyone to see.
Your listing shows your first name, the town and county, and when you joined. An exact address only shows if you add one to a land or home listing. We keep a copy of messages so we can look into reports of scams or abuse. The privacy policy covers the rest of what we collect and how it's used.
Staying safe
- Meet in a public place in daylight, or bring someone with you, and look the item over before you pay.
- Never wire money, send a cashier's check, pay with gift cards or pay a deposit for something you haven't seen.
- Be wary of anyone who wants to move the conversation off the site right away, offers more than the asking price, or asks you to ship to someone else.
- For vehicles, trailers and boats, check that the title matches the seller and the VIN or hull number. For land and homes, use a title company.
- If something seems off, stop and report the listing.
